WHAT'S NEW? : For 2011-2012, JH has a new double chairlift. The Marmot lift will take skiers from South Pass Traverse (below the Thunder lift station) 1200 vertical feet to the top of the Gondola. This will really improve the “cycle time” for those skiing mid and upper mountain..
You can’t afford to miss this great value trip to one of the premier ski areas in the country; right in our backyard. JH has the reputation of being an expert area; however, if you are not into the steep, don't let that deter you. JH is big: 2500 acres with 50% expert terrain, 4100 vertical feet , 116 named runs. That leaves over 1000 acres rated intermediate and 300 acres of beginner terrain. Furthermore, their grooming of intermediate and beginner terrain is excellent; so, regardless of your skiing level, you will enjoy the JH ski area mountains (Apres Vous and Rendezvous).
For those venturing to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain; the new arial tram “Big Red” is twice as big (capacity 100) as the old tram and 20% faster (9 minutes). In addition, the high speed Bridger Gondola will carry you more than half way to the top; and there are another 11 chair lifts scattered around the area. Remember, if you are going to ski JH be sure to pick up your vouchers in Idaho Falls and have your IFSC membership card and picture ID with you to redeem your voucher at the ski area.
Last, if you are a cross country skier; your choices are many. To name a few: Grand Teton NP trails are only a few miles away, and there are numerous private and public nordic ski areas. I suggest picking up a copy of the “Nordic Trail Guide”; free at the hotel lobby or at Skinny Skis. A couple suggestions: our favorite groomed public ski trails are Cache Creek and Game Creek.
We again will be staying at the Antler Motel, just off the square in Jackson. You may come both Friday and Saturday evenings or just one. The Antler will once again host their fantastic Elk BBQ on Saturday evening preceded by a wine and cheese party hosted by the ski club beginning at 6:30 PM. Both are included in the price. Also, after a day of skiing, the “olympic size” hot tub at the hotel is a must.
