Here is a day trip for anyone who wants to learn about the backcountry experience. This day trip will be on mild terrain in the Tetons. You’ll learn some of the backcountry basics –preparations, avalanche avoidance, and climbing skin use. The trip is tailored to those who ski off trail at lift served areas and are now interested in trying the backcountry. Veterans are also welcome. Telemark, alpine touring, or snowboarding with approach skis are all suitable tools for this warm up.

We’ll provide packing lists prior to the trip to help get you ready or identify rental/purchase needs. Snacks and beverages will be provided after you’ve earned your turns.

This is a carpool trip. We’ll meet at the Yellowstone Square parking lot on the north side of East Anderson (across East Anderson from Fred Meyers) at 7:00 am for a 7:15 am departure. We’ll stop in Driggs for anyone needing equipment rentals.

For your safety a transceiver, shovel, and probe are required. Group size will be limited.

Teton Backcountry is a new trip this season. It is very early season and snow dependent but often the Tetons offer great early season conditions. Give this a try and if you like it, take a look at our March backcountry trip to 25 Short.
